Mrs Chan was born in Cardiff, South Wales and grew up in the Northeast of England. She studied Modern Chinese Studies & Japanese at the University of Leeds, after which she moved to Japan to teach English. She trained as an ESL teacher in 2002 and has worked at a variety of institutions teaching English to young learners, primary and secondary school students, university students and adults in Taiwan, Japan and Thailand. Her expertise lies in building vocabulary, developing strong communicative skills in both writing and speaking and nurturing a love of reading.
She holds a PGCE in Education (Nottingham University), PG Dip LTCL in TESOL (Sheffield University) and an MA in TESOL (Nottingham University). Her loves of languages stemmed from growing up in a bilingual home and she is fluent in Hakka Chinese, Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Thai.
