Mrs Tomoko Matsushita – Physical Education Teacher

Mrs Tomoko Matsushita is a whole school Physical Education teacher who has been teaching in Bangkok for the past 8 years.  She joins DBS with her husband and two sons, Callen, 6 and Lochlan, 4 who are also enjoying life at DBS.  Mrs Matsushita was born, has grown up and educated in London, UK.  Her teaching career spans 20-plus years with a breadth of experience across a variety of schools and settings including London, Australia, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur and Thailand.

“My passion as a teacher is deeply rooted in pastoral care and making PE fun and memorable for all.  I enjoy seeing students develop their fundamental skills across all sports in order for all students to become lifelong learners and participants in sport throughout their lives.  I believe that education is not bound by academics only and am passionate about a student-centred, holistic approach to education.  Ensuring students develop the softer life skills needed throughout their school life and beyond, for example, empathy for others and spreading kindness to all.  The super curriculum is vital for students to develop these lifelong skills. I strongly believe in students participating in a multitude of activities and being exposed to a variety of experiences from extra-curricular activities and residential trips, including the International Award which I have been an expedition and award leader for in the past.”

A strong advocate for developing leadership skills through sport and other mediums, Mrs Matsushita has led the Sports Leaders qualification in all the schools she has worked in and introduced it into the curriculum in her previous 2 schools.  She is looking forward to seeing the impact the internationally accredited Sports Leaders qualification will have at DBS.  Having achieved the  qualification as a student, Mrs Matsushta has seen first-hand the benefits of developing leadership skills through teaching younger members of the school community in sports activities and events.  “The more students who have exposure to sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm with the school community and beyond, the greater everyone will benefit.  The qualification is a challenging and rewarding course that enables students to develop vital leadership and communication, lifelong skills.”

Mrs Matsushita is looking forward to getting to know the students at DBS and supporting them through their learning journey at school and beyond!
