Enhancing children’s English skills through role-playing activities based on their favorite fairy tales.

Adjectives are being taught to our young children in English classes as a way to describe objects. We have them roleplay as investigators to make the lesson more interesting and enjoyable.

Our Y1 teacher, Mrs Cook, used surveillance footage to make up a story about an unknown intruder breaking into her home in the UK. The children enjoyed pretending to be detectives and working together to solve the case.

Students worked on their English speaking and listening skills by discussing the evidence and describing items using vocabulary they had learned. They then created wanted posters using their best adjectives to describe what the thief looked like. By the end of the week, they had the thief in jail, who was later revealed to be a character from the well-known fairy tale Goldilocks. They interviewed her and assisted her in writing an apologetic letter to Ms Cook.
