EY Phonics Group continues through Fun Activities to Enhance their Learning at Home.

Literacy skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) are the foundation for lifelong learning and success. Children can effectively build their literacy skills through fun and creative phonics activities, not only at school, but also at home.

During the Covid-19 restrictions, students from EY2 in Miss Edwards’ Phonics Group are having a fabulous time, learning phonics with role-play activities. Students have been reading a text called “Black Hat Bob”. They have been working hard on their reading fluency, reading the book with a ‘storyteller voice’ and a ‘pirate voice’.

Over the course, they have read many books and answered many questions to enhance their understanding and comprehension. And this time, the students completed their “Big Write” where they wrote a “Wanted” poster for the villain in the story – ‘Red Hat Rob’. The students composed their sentences orally using lots of adjectives to describe the key features of this villain before writing their ideas into full sentences – complete with capital letters, finger spaces, adjectives and full stops.

A BIG  “Well done EY2!” Also, a BIG “Thank You” to all the parents who took the time to prepare their child to dress as a pirate – ready for the occasion!
