DBS Robotics Teams and their Quest to Win the (online) World Championship at VEX IQ Robotics Competition in the United States!

Throughout the 2020-21 academic year, Mrs and Mr Hall from the Computing and Robotics Department, have led groups of DBS students to a series of VEX IQ Challenges – international robotics competitions for school to university students around the world.

Their hard work and dedication have paid off. Early last month at the finals of the VEX IQ Robotics Competition, our DBS Robotic Teams won the Thailand Championship, and secured a place to compete for the (online) World Championship at Dallas, Texas, in the US!

This is an outstanding achievement, combining academic excellence with co-curricular activities. DBS students have competed against over 24 leading schools in Thailand, and 8 trophy categories, with DBS winning 6 of them!

Here is the list of our winners.

Elementary team: Ben, Freddie, Jayden, Ellena and Jonah
Teamwork Challenge Trophy – They beat all the other teams in the Driving Alliance challenge (including Middle School Teams).
Skills Challenge Trophy – Coding and Driving
Excellence Award – They are the Champions of Thailand and have won a place at the World Championships!

Middle School team 1: Tai, Lewis, Palm, Nammon
Design Award – Best robot and engineering notebook design
Excellence Award – They are the Champions of Thailand and have won a place at the World Championships!
They were also 2nd place in the Teamwork Challenge

Middle School team 2: Chess, Ethan, JK, Jedi
Sportsmanship Award – Best team spirit overall in games, interview and design.
They were also 2nd place in the Teamwork Challenge and 2nd place in the Skills Challenge

In May, they will take part in the World Championships in Dallas, Texas, which will take place online.
