Mr Ryan Woolaston is an upper school Mathematics teacher specialising in A-Level Mathematics and A-Level Further Mathematics. Originally from Nuneaton in the UK, he studied Mathematics and Education at Plymouth university before beginning his career in teaching.
“I am passionate about teaching Mathematics and showing young people that it is accessible to all. It is a beautiful and complex subject that underpins our natural world and I’m excited to share that with students at all levels. Professionally, I am strongly engaged with educational theory and use the latest research to inform how my teaching practice evolves to give students the best experience possible. I think that developing students’ Mathematical confidence is crucial to enabling them to enjoy and achieve in the subject, this is something I promote by using a range of activities in lessons. My lessons are ‘high challenge’ but with extensive support so that all students can really aim high and have no limits on their potential.”
Mr Woolaston has held multiple leadership positions in his previous schools including Senior Leader and Head of Faculty. His experience and commitment saw him play a significant part in developing a school in the UK to be the second most improved school nationally. “The impact we had on those students’ lives is my proudest episode working in education. I was very fortunate to work with a great team and we all pulled together to improve things for the students. Teaching is a very rewarding profession but the work we did in that school really stood out as it made a huge difference to the entire community.”
Having lived in Thailand for four years already, Mr Woolaston is very settled and happy in the country and is incredibly excited about his future at DBS. “The students’ energy and enthusiasm has really been evident in my first few weeks. There are some very talented students here and I am looking forward to working with them this year and beyond.”
