Mrs Sarah McCaul: Head of Section for Year 7-8

“Strong relationships between students’ families, school and the students themselves is vital to our students’ success. Our students’ school career is significant in so many ways, and I build my teaching approach around the premise that ‘every day must count’.”

Sarah McCaul is the Head of Section for Year 7&8, and English Teacher here at DBS. She has joined us from an independent, all-ages day and boarding school in Surrey, UK, where she worked as Head of English and Media Studies and Form Tutor. Sarah has over twelve years’ teaching experience, and during this time has worked as Head of Year in an international school in Bahrain, as well as carrying out the same role in a large UK comprehensive school in Berkshire. 

‘When I first learned about Denla British School, my immediate impression was that of a supportive, nurturing environment which holds very high standards for both students and staff. Having now spent a lot more time here, it is clear that my initial impression was right. It has been my pleasure to meet a group of such positive, polite and dedicated students who have impressed me enormously with their commitment and enthusiasm to learn.   

My passion for teaching English is matched only by my passion for ensuring our students have a positive pastoral experience at school, too. Throughout everything, I am guided by my overarching belief that strong relationships between students’ families, school and the students themselves is vital to our students’ success. Each year of our students’ school career is significant in so many ways, and I build my teaching approach around the premise that ‘every day must count’. I am also a firm believer that discussion, debate and disagreement are important skills to develop, not only to help written argument and coherence, but a skill which students will need to use throughout their lives to help make valuable contributions to the world around them. We must not shy away from differences, but embrace them, and debate is a very healthy way to foster this skill.’
