The Araya Hall

The Araya Hall

The Araya Hall is Thailand’s newest and most advanced auditorium, delicately designed with upper and lower levels consisting of 600 seats from Kotobuki Sea, a leader in public seating from Japan. The auditorium is equipped with an L-Acoustics sound system, the world’s number one sound system from France. The stage is installed with sprung flooring, 16 stage rigs and a lighting system designed and installed by top specialists in Thailand, all for perfect performance and theatre play. The auditorium is installed with smoke detectors, a sprinkler system, CCTVs, and access control for the entire auditorium to ensure safety. The AC system is of PM 2.5 filter quality. The materials used in the hall are inflammable and there are 9 enter/exit doors.

The Acoustic System
We were honoured to have welcomed Dr Krissada Vivatvakin, Thailand’s leading sounds expert and the Managing Director of Atkrist Co., Ltd., to our Araya Hall for the quality check of the Acoustic sound systems. Three areas were tested as follows: the Acoustics noise criteria (NC), the Acoustic Reverberation Time (RT) and the Acoustic Rapid Speech Transmission Index (RASTI).

Acoustic Noise Criteria, NC
The acoustic noise criteria measures the background noise levels when the air conditioning system is turned on. It is important for the background noise levels to be within acceptable limits to ensure optimal communication.

The recommended noise criteria for an auditorium should not exceed NC 35, which the results of the Araya Hall are as follows:

  • Auditorium Level 1&2
  • Auditorium Level 3

From the measurement results of the Noise Criteria, NC values in the Auditorium are in accordance with standards.

Acoustics Reverberation Time, RT
The acoustics reverberation time measures the time the sound takes to fade away in a closed space after the source of sound has stopped. Sound fade when it hits surfaces that can absorb sounds such as chairs, curtains or even people. That is why when we speak in an empty room, the sound echoes.

The recommended reverberation time for an auditorium should be at around RT 1.0-1.4 (seconds), which the results of the Araya Hall are as follows:

  • Auditorium Level 1&2
The average reverberation time for the Araya Hall’s level 1&2 is 0.9 seconds at a frequency of 500-4kHz.
  • Auditorium Level 3
The average reverberation time for the Araya Hall’s level 3 is 0.6 seconds at a frequency of 500-4kHz.

From the measurement results of the reverberation time, RT Values in the Auditorium are in accordance with standards.

Acoustics Rapid Speed Transmission Index, RASTI
The acoustics rapid speed transmission index measures the intelligibility of speech or audience’s ability to understand speech.

The recommended reverberation time for an auditorium should be:
Terrible              Poor                  Fair                  Good                 Excellent
0.030              0.30-0.45           0.45-0.60          0.60-0.75             0.75-1.00

The results of the Araya Hall are as follows:

  • Auditorium Level 1&2
Rapid Speech Transmission Index, Auditorium level 1&2 is 0.58 on minimum, which is Fair to Excellent.
  • Auditorium Level 3
Rapid Speech Transmission Index, Auditorium level 3 is 0.64 on minimum, which is Good to Excellent.

From the measured result of the Rapid Speech Transmission Index, RSTI values in the Auditorium are at a good level.

Conclusion

The results were clear – we mastered them all.

  • the NC values are in accordance with standards
  • the RT values are in accordance with standards
  • the RASTI is at a good level
