Here at DBS, World Maths Day was kickstarted with an assembly by the Maths department. The focus of this assembly was to broaden the student’s knowledge about prospective careers in Mathematics. Students from Year 8 presented videos and acted out the roles of the jobs, leaving the rest of the Prep students to guess what the jobs were.
A range of careers were demonstrated, including aeronautical engineering to fashion designing to scientific journalism. Students were shown a ‘tongue-in-cheek’ video of Aom, Pearl and Felicia being forensic scientists. Students were enlightened about how their interest in Maths could lead them to a career in car engineering or even game designing.
The Year 8 students did a fantastic job of introducing these ideas and hopefully provided the starting point for some students to be thinking about their future careers in Mathematics.
